Do you know the effects of digital screen on eye?

Technology is an extraordinary invention introduced by the mankind to simplify the work. Every time we can see a new piece of technology emerging continually to meet our ever changing needs. Even though the emerging technology speeds up our work, it shows many negative effects to our health, especially eyes. In today’s world we are constrained to multiple digital devices and screens, like cell phones, tablets, computers, or a television to complete our daily tasks. According to a study it was reported that adults spend more than half of the day using some piece of technology. Not only adult’s even kids are becoming more involved with devices or other forms of technology at home or in the classroom. Many people are unaware of the harsh effects of technology on eye and are constantly exposing their eyes to technology. Few common effects of digital screens on eyes are

  • Headaches and Migraines
  • Computer Vision Syndrome
  • Retina Damage
  • Less blinking
  • Closer focus
  • Uncomfortable angles

  Precautions to protect your eyes:

Simple usage of a digital device doesn’t cause eye strain, but the way we use the device causes the digital eye strain. Sitting too close to the monitor, improper posture, blue light, dry eye disease, using contact lens, and any preexisting refractive conditions can lead to digital eye strain. We can prevent the adverse effects of digital screen on eye by taking 20 seconds of break for 20 minutes usage of device and look at something 20 feet away. Take regular breaks, blink eyes periodically, change the work place, and adjust the brightness according to vision needs. Examine the lighting around and adjust it or use an anti-glare protective monitor screen to reduce reflections and glare on your screen. Even though we can reduce the side effects of digital screen by following the above precautions, one must turn off their digital devices for at least an hour before going to bed and should stop using them whenever it is not required.
